US News Features Reggie Brown Obama Impersonator and Jim Gossett Romney Impersonator As They Kick Off Voter Register at 35,000 Feet With Virgin America

Rock the Vote teams up with Virgin America flights so customers can register to vote mid-flight

Reggie Brown Obama Impersonator and Jim Gossett Romney Impersonator Launch Virgin America
If on-demand movies, a 4,000 song playlist and onboard video games aren't enough to keep guests entertained on a Virgin America flight, the airline is now offering a complimentary new service to get passengers engaged before the November election — voter registration at 35,000 feet.

Starting Tuesday, guests can register to vote on all of Virgin America's flights, about 1,000 flights a day.

The voter registration drive is in cooperation with "Rock the Vote," a non-partisan voter registration organization targeted at young voters, that hopes to get 1.5 million new voters engaged in time for the 2012 election.

"We want to make sure that as many people have an opportunity to register to vote as possible," says Heather Smith, president of Rock the Vote. "We teamed up with Virgin America because they are a young, fun company that shares our values."

Now, on the back of every seat, voters can touch their smart phones on the inflight screens to download an instant voter registration application. [See: Latest political cartoons]

"We are a new airline that like to give our fliers more choice, more power to do what they want onboard," says Abby Lunardini, the Vice President of Corporate Communications for Virgin America. "In the lead up to the election, this was a great opportunity to give our passengers more options.

Tuesday also marked Virginia America's inaugural nonstop flight from its San Francisco-based hub to Washington's Reagan's National airport. The landmark flight featured a patriotic edge complete with presidential impersonators Jim Gossett as Mitt Romney and Reggie Brown as President Barack Obama.
